Veneers
Veneers are thin layers of porcelain that are bonded to the surface of your existing teeth. Veneers can correct color, shape and alignment of your teeth for improved esthetics. A veneer requires removing about 1mm of tooth structure so the newly veneered tooth does not feel too bulky.
An impression is made of the teeth and sent to the dental laboratory. You will have temporary veneers until the porcelain veneers return from the lab to be bonded to your teeth.
Bonding
Bonding is a similar procedure to veneers but can be done in one visit. The tooth is prepared and a layer of composite is shaped over the surface of the tooth and bonded to the tooth with a bright light.
The material is then smoothed and polished. Bonding is less expensive than porcelain veneers and may chip or stain over time but can usually be easily repaired or replaced if needed.
Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening is a method of lightening the shade of your teeth. All teeth react differently to whitening or "bleaching". Dr. Monson provides in office and take home methods of whitening. In office whitening can be done in one or two appointments and take home may take 2-3 weeks.
Take home whitening requires wearing trays with a strong peroxide based solution for about an hour a day. In office whitening involves applying the bleaching solution directly to the teeth until the desired shade is achieved.
Cosmetic Restorations
Dr. Monson now does most restorations in tooth-colored materials for maximum esthetics. lf any metal is required in your restoration, it will be hidden from view when you speak and smile.
